The songs really say all about me.
Many nights I awaken with phrases playing in my head that are accompanied by familiar tunes. I know to get out of the way, and not judge or control. That being said, I refuse to get up. I tell the voices that since there is no time on their side of the vale, they can come back when it's light. They always do.
Meanwhile, since I am awake, I repeat the phrases over knowing I will remember them and write them down after I have my coffee. Sometimes there are three songs in a single night. Sometimes as many as seven songs in a week. The songs vary in style, but are always positive and usually clever. They are gifts given by those only heard by me - the soundless voices that sing in my head.
I am a passionate believer in the power of affirmation. Often my songs have affirmations embedded in them. To say, "I am love" is an affirmation. To sing a positive affirming phrase is powerful and healing.
Besides writing, I love to garden, to be outside with my loved ones on a clear Spring day is a favorite opportunit. To create places in my garden to grow flowers and nutrient-dense foods feels healthful and timeless.

I love to dance - especially ballroom - especially Rumba and West Coast Swing. You can hear the influences of theses dances in my singing and playing. It was ballroom dancing that brought me my sweet Russ. I met Russ at the Starlight Ballroom in Sunnyvale, California on March 14, 2003. We were married one year later and still dance in the living room or kitchen. We are best friends.
My other delight is cooking. I am a chef that loves to play in the fire, so will create something over the fire, but it is mostly about playing in the fire. I am a Sagittarius which is a fire sign. I cook only with organic ingredients, ferment my own wines and vinegars and make my own yogurt and cheese with raw milk from grass fed happy cows.
I love to teach singing, guitar and ukelele. My trio meets twice every week. We only do my songs and I teach them harmony. It turn, I am well compensated with smiles and shared delight.

Music is Play
I am a teacher of music. My gift is to help students become musicians - to play music with others, to learn from any source: from radio, TV, CDs or sheet music. To play along with others who are not playing the same instrument - music that they have never heard before and to be free of the necessity of electricity. To be free to create their own harmonies and understand that it is not really that difficult or mysterious unless they make it so. I am primarily a singer. I have always written songs. I produced my first paying show when I was eight. I am 58 years old and still produce, but now I do it for fun. Over the past fifty years I have produced, hosted and been featured in all manner of shows and productions from wine cellars and coffee houses, to kindergarten and college classes, to concerts, television, radio and festivals. My television production "Patti Jo Roth's Songwriters' Soundstage" was taped weekly in Pacifica, California and aired from Australia to Brazil. |
"Is That You Singing?"
I was recently asked in a comment from Not a Nice Person if that was really me singing followed by some things that don't bare repeating. For those of you who wonder: Yes. That is me singing lead and all four of the harmonies, playing the guitar or ukelele, creating the song and the arrangement. I build the song with all of the harmonies and accompaniment in my studio with out any help from anyone else.
So, yes, that is me singing the songs that I wrote. They are then produced into a product: a song that is in the correct formats depending on the requirements of the various venues, published and distributed. The next step is to put the lyrics on the various lyric sites and to create a video for You Tube.
I am working toward posting all of the chord/lyric sheets on this site for the use of fellow musicians.
Part of producing a product is the graphic artwork. My husband takes the photos. I then use those photos to create the various covers and posters that you see on the internet.
My first sentence as a baby was: I do it myself. I guess I have always walked my talk.
